Be You.

I had the honor of being featured in an illustrated book of Asian American and Pacific Islander stories compiled by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. The stories are unique, incredibly diverse and have some common intersecting threads just like all our stories. Based on the book, there are 30 Learning Lab collections for educators and students. My art, activism and DEI journey has taken me into the educational landscape across the nation. It has been a very engaging journey with students, teachers and storytellers. I share a sampling of these works powered by words and art.

American Stories.

NYC Department of Education released the AAPI version of the Hidden Voices project as part of its Social Studies curriculum in 2023. I was honored to be part of the collection of a rich diversity of Asian American Pacific Islanders stories that add to the ever evolving story of this young nation.

Working Towards Change.

Mark Larson’s book is a window into 100+ Americans at work in the diverse spectrum of professions including mine in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion workspace. The book is inspired by Studs Terkel’s masterpiece, ‘Working’ 50 years ago.

Be the Change.

I had the privilege of being profiled in a collection of over 30 Changemakers from all across the nation dedicated to the cause of social justice in myriad of creative ways. Click on the book cover image for more details about this collection.

My keynote talk at the 2022 National Art Education Association Conference in New York City. I tell stories powered by vulnerability and visual arts.

Learning with Cartoons.

UNITED SIKHS, in partnership with the NYC Department. of Education launched Sikh-focused lesson plans for elementary and middle school students in 2016. The lesson plans titled ‘Creating Political Cartoons: Civil Rights in the USA’ and ‘The Teachings of Sikhism’, support 5th and 6th graders in learning about the lives of Sikh Americans through U.S. civil rights and world religions. My Sikhtoon created in response to post 9/11 hate crimes against Sikh Americans is part of the lesson plan ‘Creating Political Cartoons: Civil Rights in the USA’. Learning aided by visual aids is a very powerful tool at our disposal inside and outside educational spaces.
