Adventures of Sikh Captain America in Los Angeles
Cartoon workshop extracts superheroic imaginations at downtown museum
By Vishavjit Singh in New York, February 2014

The Japanese American National Museum was host to the Adventures of Sikh Captain America presentation and a cartoon workshop to
spark the superheroic imagination within.

This event was presented in conjunction with the conclusion of the Marvels & Monsters: Unmasking Asian Images in US Comics, 1942-1986
exhibit. Inspired by the huge reception to the Sikh Captain America photo-shoot in New York City last year the museum invited me to share
my work and experiences of the cosplay experiment.

On a day full of family friendly activities at the musuem I presented the world of turbaned and bearded cartoon characters from my collection.
We concluded with the story of my Captain America social experiment. Then we stepped into the interactive cartoon workshop tapping into
the ripe imagination of young and old in the audience.

Los Angelinos repesenting the cultural fabric of our country were given one simple instruction, "Create superheroes inspired and tickled by
your own imagination". And off they went to work creating quite an array of characters. Enjoy this sampling of new superheroes.

If you would like to host Captain America along with his superhero cartoon workshop in your school, community, museum, library, office, conference
or any other setting in need of the creative spirit feel free to contact me by email [ vsingh at sikhtoons dot com ] or twitter @sikhtoons
